About Kauai:
Kauai is the oldest of Hawaii's major islands and known as the
"Garden Isle" and has a land area of 552.3 square miles.
Kauai was formed 5 million years ago from a single shield volcano
that has become deeply eroded with time and volcanic action -
producing both the Grand Canyon of the Pacific (Waimea) and the
stunning sea cliffs along the Na Pali coast.
The "Garden Island" offers
magnificent scenery and lush vegetation, beautiful waterfalls, the
spectacular Waimea Canyon, the great "hidden" valley of
Kalalau, colorful tropical plants and flowers.
Kauai County includes the islands of Kauai, Niihau, and uninhabited
Lehua and Kaula. Kaua'i is the least populous of the major islands
with population of 61,929 in 2004.
Climate: Kauai is
blessed with moderate climate year round. Like most of the Hawaiian
Islands, Kauai has only two seasons: "summer" between May and
October and winter between "October and April".

ranges from 71.3 (°F) to 79.1 (°F) at Lihue airport.

rainfall ranges from 35 inches at Poipu Beach to 444 inches at the
summit of Waialeale (one of the wettest spots in the United States).

Kauai include Poipu Beach on the southern coast, Kalapaki Beach by
Nawiliwili Harbor, the Royal Coconut Coast extending from Lihue,
the county seat, to Kapaa town, and Princeville at Hanalei on the
North Shore of Kauai. Popular outdoor sports include hiking,
mountain biking, kayaking, snorkeling and diving, fishing,
windsurfing, surfing, golf, swimming and bird watching. Common
tour activities include cruising the wilderness coast in ocean
rafts and flight seeing.
